We've followed the dependency chain outward:

If compute is sufficiently valuable and electricity sufficiently scarce, companies can move the computers toward cheap power rather than endlessly trying to move power toward the computers.
That's an old industrial pattern wearing a very modern jacket. Aluminum smelters, steel mills and factories clustered around energy and transportation infrastructure for the same reason.
AI may ultimately be software.
But the infrastructure underneath it is becoming unmistakably physical.
